Admissions Graduate Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

It is the policy of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to provide assistantships to as many qualified students as possible. However, admission to the graduate program does not imply the granting of financial aid. This is done separately, and an applicant interested in obtaining financial aid should request information directly from the department. These awards are highly competitive and are given only on the basis of merit. The following types of aid are available:

  1. Teaching assistantships and teaching fellowships are awarded to exceptionally well-prepared students, in return for assistance in laboratories, course recitation sections, and other teaching duties.
  2. Research assistantships are awarded to students for assistance on research projects.
  3. Dean's Fellowships are supplementary awards to outstanding graduates of ABET- accredited programs. These are given in addition to a teaching or research assistantship, and are for first-year students. Additional school-wide and departmental fellowships are available to continue the supplement beyond the first year.

When an award for financial aid is made by the department, the terms and conditions are specified. Applications for financial aid should be received as early as possible. Contact the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for more information.
