The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers six different curricular programs, five of which are heavily involved in research. Choose a program and you can focus on:

Construction Management & Sustainability

Controlling the flow and operations of people, machines, and material on a construction job site while at the same time monitoring the complete economic and environmental impact and performance, from raw materials and product manufacture to building design, construction, operations and maintenance, and building reuse or disposal.

William Hunter Dammond

William Hunter Dammond earned a degree in civil engineering (with honors) and became the first African American graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

Dammond is remembered as a noted engineer, professor, inventor, and mathematical genius whose achievements included noteworthy contributions to the railroad industry-a major American industry that employed large numbers African Americans.
