Education
Professional InterestsFred Moses joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in 1992 as Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department, coming from Case Western Reserve University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, including structural reliability, random processes, structural mechanics and analysis and system optimization. Dr. Moses has been Visiting Professor during sabbaticals at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, the Technion in Haifa, Imperial College, London, and the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. He has chaired the ASCE Committee on Structural Reliability and the ASCE Bridge Safety Committee. Dr. Moses' honors include the ASCE Wellington Prize, the Moisseiff Medal and the ASCE State-of-the-Art Award. Professor Moses' areas of research and practice includes structural reliability, optimization, ocean structure safety, and highway bridge loading, fatigue, testing and safety analysis. He has had several NSF research projects in system reliability and optimization and has been P.l. on numerous NCHRP, TRB, FHA and Ohio DOT projects related to highway loads and safety.
