Pitt Receives $25 million PennDOT Contract
The CEE Department will administer an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) signed between the University of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). This five-year agreement-capped at $25 million-names Pitt as one of the leading institutions in the state that will assist PennDOT in the development and implementation of new technologies and operational strategies in the transportation sector.
New Graduate Programs
The department has started a new graduate program in transportation engineering, and began offering graduate courses in mining engineering.

Research Spotlight
Dr. Rafael Quimpo and Dr. Ronald Neufeld are the principal investigators for a $2.1 million PennDot grant.
Dr. Leonard Casson, associate professor, was awarded a grant by the Water Environment Research Foundation.
Dr. Julie Vandenbossche, assistant professor, was awarded a grant from the Federal Highway Administration.
Dr. Xu Liang,associate professor, was awarded two grants from NOAA and NASA, respectively.
