When Wohlfarth is not working, you may find him cheering on Pitt’s sports teams or encouraging his two daughters through their college years. He looks back at his Pitt days fondly, where he was also a varsity letterman in wrestling. “Despite being a big school, there was a small school atmosphere,” he said. Wohlfarth’s petroleum engineering class was very small and he enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow students, as well as their professors. He stays connected as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and is also involved with the New Jersey Pitt Club, where he stays connected through Pittnics to welcome incoming freshmen to Pitt life, and various other Pitt events. |

Good advice, especially coming from Wohlfarth, who has been fortunate to be with Public Service Enterprise Group since graduating from Pitt. He began his career in the gas utility business and designed his own career path that eventually led him to the top. While his background in petroleum engineering was beneficial, Wohlfarth admitted he did a lot of learning on the job. He moved through the corporation, eventually becoming president and CEO of Energy Development Corporation. Once that company was sold, he moved into the deregulated energy business. Wohlfarth's initiative led to the separation of the company’s wholesale and retail gas businesses and ultimately the deregulation of the wholesale gas business.
