Laboratories Communications Research

Communications Research Laboratory:
263 Benedum Hall

Current research in the laboratory focuses on communications theory, information theory and signal processing theory for applications in future wireless networking systems, with special emphasis on iterative decoding and equalization, spectrum efficient coded modulation, capacity of wireless network, cross-layer ad hoc networking, and impulse radio networks.

Workstations and servers, including the Power Edge 4800 from Dell computers, SunBlade1000 workstations, Dell Precision 530 workstations, personal laptops, network switches, and a firewall are installed in the lab. Software radio which provides DSP/FPGA digital signal processing chips and up/down modulation units on board will be purchased in year 2003. This software radio will be used to build a prototype system and test out some of selected transceiver designs in real-time environment.

Relevant graduate level courses offered in the laboratory include:

  • Channel coding theory and practice
  • Digital Communications
  • Information Theory
