Students Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi is the national engineering honor society. Founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to honor engineering students with excellent scholastic records who could not be inducted into the liberal arts honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, the organization currently has chapters at 218 engineering institutions. The local chapter at the University of Pittsburgh, Lambda, has members, including faculty, from all of the engineering disciplines.

Since its founding at the University of Pittsburgh, approximately 1350 candidates have been inducted. Membership is extended to students who are in the top 1/5 of the senior class or the top 1/8 of the junior class. Participation includes activities that aid in the development of fellow engineers and the community, such as tutoring and helping to build housing for low-income families.
